Why we made it this way

Design Choices

This game was developed to fix what I believe are the most common problems of social deduction board games.

1

Waiting for the special role you want

In some social deduction games the player experience is very different depending on what secret role you are assigned. You may play a social deduction game and never get to have the "traitor" role, because the card was never dealt to you. Slackademics fixes this problem: the role of the Slacker is dynamic, and depends on what card you play from your hand, rather than waiting for a secret role.

2

No evidence

Some social deduction games feel like you are just guessing. Players are throwing out wild accusations based on pure gut feeling rather than evidence from the game. Slackademics fixes this problem by giving the players just the right amount of information to make deductions possible and the accusations logical.

3

No goal

Some social deduction games feel like there is no purpose. Players are just out to get each other and make each other suffer. Slackademics fixes this by having all players, including the Slacker, work towards the common goal of passing projects.
